Heroic train driver loses hand saving 350 passengers

In Vietnam, train driver Truong Xuân approached a crossing where a truck driver was attempting to cross the tracks. He quickly chose to apply the emergency brake rather than the regular brakes. It would take longer for the train to stop using the regular brakes.

He did this at the risk of his own safety because pressure must be continuously applied to the emergency brake until the train came to a complete stop. Mr. Troung lost a third of his left arm and broke his left leg in efforts of lessening the impact. The truck driver also sustained injuries.

In the end, only three carriages derailed and all 350 passengers were unharmed. Mr. Truong is recuperating from his injuries and the director of his employer said the company will find Mr. Truong a suitable job when he recovers. Awesome story of selfless heroics!
